USA! USA! USA!!!

This is just a quick post about the amazing hockey game this morning. I am so glad that I got up early and watched this entire game. It's not everyday you see the best in the world go at it so competitively.

The US looked sharp when they came out and scored their first early goal. They were lucky to get through the second period with Canada only scoring one goal to tie it up- only with the help of their goalie. They hit both go posts late in the third but the game went to sudden death overtime. Also late in the third Jack Hughes got his two front teeth knocked out and the US went on a resulting 4-minute power play.

Although the US was not able to score on the extended power play, Canada I'm sure regretted knocking this kids teeth out. In less than 2 minutes in overtime Jack scored the game winning goal. What a great picture of this young man still bleeding draped in the flag after winning the first gold medal on 46 years for the US men.

I remember the miracle on ice in 1980 but not like we sat there and watched it live. At the time it was a big win not just for hockey but also in the cold war with the USSR. Ronald Reagan would be elected that year and would get in the American hostages released from Iran in 1981-which was also a big win for our country. Eventually America had another win when the iron curtain fell. We won the Cold War and the world was changed.

Maybe it's just because it coincides with my memory of events as I went from childhood to adolescence, but it seemed like 1980 was a turning point in America and the world.

Hopefully history repeats itself and after this great hockey win and in the coming years America can come together again to take on any challenges the world can throw at it. Days like today make you remember we are all one amazing (best in the history of the world) country not subjects of one party or person ality. And it also reminds you that together we can do anything if we put our minds to it.
