Wind Storm (Classic Bait and Switch Move)

Friday we had some serious wind storms with wind gusts up to 50 or 60 mph. We lost power at the house and many tree branches went down. We lit some candles and played some gin. Power came back on after it calmed down and we had a nice night.

Saturday I asked Sadie and her friend if they wanted to go drive the side by side down at Bloomingdale. We started on the trails and immediately found lots of trees down blocking our way. So what was supposed to be something fun for them actually ended up being more of a work day. Classic bait and switch.
They would pull up a couple of hundred feet and park while I jumped out with the chainsaws and cut up whatever tree was across the path and then they would throw the scraps of wood off the path.

There was probably 50 trees of varying sizes across the paths and we cut about 15 of them just to get them off the path. It ended up being a decent day and the girls were a big help and really didn't complain, which I did appreciate.

Three of the trees fell on the neighbor's high tension wire fence. Another one almost fell on his gate.

The kids left and I cut a few more small trees that were across the path. A couple were way bigger than I could do by hand- which I will leave for when I get the excavator back down there. I had a really enjoyable day in the woods. It was sunny and calm and I had time and attitude to ponder and reflect on my blessings , recent events in my life and the wonder of nature.
I went back Sunday after a nice winter snowfall and cut up the ones on the fence.
This was my first foray into time lapse. I loaded all the wood onto the bobcat and dumped it into the back of the brand new rental pickup truck without fish or incident.
When I was all said and done we ended up with about a cord of wood for the basement and the fence bounced right back.

Not to mention we have a nice dry ash log to mill up this year.

I'll grab this one next weekend and get it over to the mill.

I absolutely love your blogger era Dad!! Keep going ✨💪🏻
